CyberSynthetica, an interactive exhibition and my bachelor's thesis at the Cologne International School of Design (Cologne Technical University, Faculty of Cultural Studies). This project is a deeper exploration of the Viable System Model (VSM) and its applications – inspired by historical events in Chile and the concept of “Socialist Internet”, also known as Project Synco.

My interest in the Viable System Model began during my midterm exam, in which I explored the dynamics between social structures and technological innovation. The events in Chile and the Synco project, which was aimed at, to control a national economy through cybernetic principles, fascinated me deeply. This enthusiasm motivated me, to further deepen the topic in my final work.

CyberSynthetica is more than just a study; it is an interactive exhibition, which fits into the foyer of the Filmhaus Cologne. Through carefully designed exhibition elements, The exhibition strives to achieve this in facilities and texts, to convey three core theses:

  1. Administration as a complex apparatus: The exhibition shows, how management systems adapt slowly and often encounter complex problems.
  2. The viable system model as an organizational solution: It is presented, like the VSM features, that wants a broad mass of people for its administrative apparatus.
  3. Potential for new administrative structures: The possibility, to create new and effective administrative structures, is highlighted as an essential potential.

With CyberSynthetica I invite you, to immerse yourself in a world, in science, Design and social responsibility come together. Discover, how innovative models like the VSM can contribute to this, to overcome complex challenges in our society and to design more effective administrative systems.
